Terms of Service
These terms are a draft. Runo is a preview service run by one person and this document has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It describes honestly how the service works today. It will be replaced before Runo takes anyone's money.
1. What Runo does
Runo takes a file you upload, splits it into chapters, and narrates it using an AI text-to-speech model. You get audio files, a player, and an audiobook you can download. Runo does not fetch anything on your behalf: every document in your library is one you put there.
All narration is AI-generated speech. No human reads anything aloud. Every file is watermarked and tagged as machine-generated.
2. Your account
Accounts are currently by invitation. You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself, and for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it.
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deletion is immediate and permanent — your books, your audio and your listening history go with it, and we cannot restore them afterwards.
3. What you may upload
You are responsible for the text you bring. Upload only works you own, works you have bought, works that are in the public domain, or works you otherwise have the right to have narrated for your own listening.
Runo is for personal listening. Do not use it to produce audio you then publish, sell, or distribute, unless you hold the rights to do that. Do not use it to make someone appear to say something they did not say.
We do not review what you upload, and your library is private to you. That is a design choice about your privacy, not an invitation.
4. Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Runo infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with enough detail to identify the work and where it is. We will remove infringing material and may suspend accounts that repeatedly infringe.
5. Voices
The voices Runo offers are licensed for this use, and their provenance is documented. You may not use Runo to clone a real person's voice without that person's clear permission. Voice upload is not available today; when it is, it will require that permission explicitly.
6. Limits and fair use
Each plan includes a monthly amount of narration, measured in hours of audio produced, and a limit on how many books you can hold. Narration spends real computing time, so these limits are enforced rather than advisory. You can see your usage on your account page.
7. Payment
Runo does not currently charge for anything. Plans exist and their limits apply, but no money changes hands and no payment details are collected. If that changes, you will be told before it affects you.
8. Availability
Runo is a preview. It may be unavailable, lose queued work, or change without notice. Keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose — the audio is downloadable precisely so that you can.
We provide the service as it is, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited, including your rights under Finnish and EU consumer law.
9. Ending things
You may stop using Runo and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that is being used to infringe copyright, or that puts the service at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to get your data out first.
10. Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, the version below changes and you will be asked to accept the new one. We keep a record of which version each account accepted, and when.
11. Law
These terms are governed by Finnish law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
